Dumbeldore again
NY Times finally caught up with HP world. In an article titled "Is Dumbeldore Gay? Depends on Definitions of 'Is' and 'Gay'", it says:
Ha! I haven't heard anything more ridiculous. Anyway, it further says:
Since as a grown up Dumbeldore was "genre wizard", he could never have been stupid as a kid? He was never a teenager, I suppose. He was dropped from the sky (as Harry thought him to be) old and superior. Come on grow up. Harry did.
But it is possible that Ms. Rowling may be mistaken about her own character.
Ha! I haven't heard anything more ridiculous. Anyway, it further says:
Ms. Rowling quite consciously makes Dumbledore a flawed, more human wizard than these models, but now goes too far. There is something alien about the idea of a mature Dumbledore being called gay or, for that matter, being in love at all. He may have his earthly difficulties and desires, but in most ways he remains the genre wizard, superior to the world around him.
Since as a grown up Dumbeldore was "genre wizard", he could never have been stupid as a kid? He was never a teenager, I suppose. He was dropped from the sky (as Harry thought him to be) old and superior. Come on grow up. Harry did.

My own Murphy day
1. If you didn't bring your umbrella and biked 7 miles to get to the office, it will rain in the evening.
2. The book you just returned to the library, will be referred sacredly by the next paper you read.
Corollary: The section referred in this said paper will be the section you didn't go through in the said book.
3. If you have been looking forward to a particular event/day (read: Halloween and Diwali), it will fall on the busiest day of your schedule.
Corollary: The said event (Costume contest at Bookstore (No, I wasn't participating but wanted to be there for some cool shots)) starts and ends at exact time as your seminar/class which you can't afford to skip.
Yep, I am having a fascinating day! Thanks for asking.

Lucky Catches
So I was walking for my class this morning and a helicopter whooshed right up the head. Apparently there was some sort of photo shooting going on. So I whipped out my camera too and started clicking. Well I couldn't think on feet especially with the anxiety of being late for the class. This is the best shot I could catch.

Friday Evening...
I decided to pick up my pencils again this Friday. Resisted the temptation to go and watch the movie "Dan in Real Life" or "Game Plan"(both of them are on my To-watch list). So here are fresh from the factory sketches...They are completely random, out of the bag, sketches.

Dumbledore "comes out" of closet
Spoiler Warning: Frankly, if you haven't still finished Deathly Hallows, you don't care about this post any way but still being a loyal Harry Potter fan, its my responsibility to warn you about possible plot spoilers.
As they say, "Watched pot never boils". All the time I spend browsing through the Harry Potter fan sites but the days I decide to skip, something big comes out. This time its Dumbledore coming out of the closet and announcing that he is gay. Well obviously the fictional character don't talk but their author do. So J.K. Rowling decided to "out" him.
Honestly, I don't have a problem with him being gay or otherwise but I do have a problem with his obsession with Gellert Grindelwald, the dark wizard. And apparently in his life of 116 years and 98 years after he met Grindelwald, he couldn't find anyone else and move on. Now that's ridiculous. I can understand that as teenager, he got infatuated by dark side due to Grindelwald and tragic death of his sister opened his eyes to the reality but then why not move on, get a life. No one as bright as Gridelwald, eh, even though he is evil? I thought Dumbledore knew better than that. Or may be people in magical world don't know the concept of moving on, take Snape for instance.
The second point that disturbs me is that he actually discusses his love life with Harry? He says, and I quote:
Honestly, I will be very uncomfortable if any of my high school teacher started talking to me like that. But guess, as they say, it was necessary for the plot...

Unanswerable question #2
"So when are you finishing your PhD?"
Seriously, it is a very painful question. Do people asking this question realize what a big chaos a PhD really is? Its as if, you are blindfolded in the darkest room and you need to find the door of that room. No matter how bright you are, you still can't SEE. When will you find that door, that is, given you will find that door, is impossible to tell. And it has an added difficulty that if someone else in the same room found the door first, you have to start in some other dark room, ALL OVER AGAIN.
Some day, may be, this chaos will make sense. It doesn't right now. And the day it starts making sense, I will tell you my graduation date. Now, LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
P.S.: 1. For the Unanswerable question #1, click here.
2. No, my advisor didn't ask this question. Just some old, long lost friend suddenly decided to remember me and ask this question (add 'stupid' to the list of adjectives before friend). Hence starting the avalanche you are in.

Photo Time: The Fauna of Stanford
Ok, I am killing time. I have to meet my advisor (yes, again!) in half an hour which means I can't start with anything new and can't fret about the meeting all this time. So here are few pictures from my new D-SLR (Oooh, did I tell you that I am falling in love..with my new camera, of course).
The squirrel getting ready to jump in the branches which he actually did a split second later.

Terrified squirrel (oh ok, I terrorized it with my camera) running hither and thither.
The blue bird..I don't know what its called. But I like them nevertheless, except when they start screaming. This one is in pensive mood. Probably thinking, should I get down or not....
Ok..still got 15 minutes. Let me find some better job now..

Bobby Jindal Quiz
Which one of these is the most important achievement of Bobby Jindal:
If you picked 2, you are a Desist. If you picked 1, you are an anti-racist. And if you picked 3, you don't give a damn about it, do you? I like you.
Edit: Ummm, yeah the Desist here doesn't refer to the English word 'desist' (meaning cease to proceed or act..no pun intended) but its name for group of people practicing Desism as explained here. Sorry for the confusion.
1. He is first non-white governor of Louisiana, a southern state.
2. He is first Indian-American governor in U.S. history.
3. At 36, he is nation's youngest governor.

Advisor Pain #1
How do you tell your advisor that he is not making any sense, what-so-ever? Or you just assume that you don't have enough brains to start fathoming the depth of his insights about YOUR work? Am I really supposed to incorporate those ideas in my work but the million dollar question remains how and what? Can someone explain it in a human language? I am willing to learn any language as long as its spoken and understood in THIS realm, in THIS dimension and on THIS Earth.

Lake Lagunita: Now and then
Usually the winter rain fills up the Lake Lagunita in Stanford campus. For past 2 years it has been dry. Fortunately the year I landed here, it had some water after the winter rains(thanks to good rain that year). I went to the lake again on Sunday, just to try my new camera(or rather to learn how to use it). And for fun, here are comparison shots. The first one was taken in March of 2005 when there was water in the lake and second one is from yesterday. The ups and downs of life...

Desism Vs. Racism
I guess its a quotation day. This time its from magazine India-Currents. Aditi Nadkarni wrote a wonderful article "The Racism in Desism". Unfortunately, I couldn't find the link for the article so I took liberty of typing out the excerpts:
We Indians love labels, don't we? And I don't mean Guccis and Pradas. I mean labels for people, of both Indian and non-Indian origin...It is quite insightful article. I wish I could find the link to original article.
We are desis in foreign country. India-Americans raised in the United States are promptly tagged ABCDs (American Born Confused Desis). And for a certain populations of desis, the chinese become "Chinkis", African-American become "Kallus", and white people become "Goras". We see nothing wrong in making casual use of these names. We permit ourselves to do the very thing that would likely offend us if we were on the receiving end. If one were to ever refer to us as "brownies" or, even more disturbingly, as "rag heads", we would be screaming "racism!" from the rooftops.
Racism is ill defined within the Indian community. I have come across people who think that only the discrimination on part of white people is racist. Their own discrimination behavior, however, is permissible.
...Then there is the even more disturbing regional bias among Indian themselves....(The) groups of Indians not only stuck together due to language and cultural commonalities, but also at times claimed superiority based on their regional backgrounds. A friend once joked that the "unity-in-diversity" attribute of India was likely preserved not because of tolerance, but because selective communal groups allowed one ample opportunity to avoid the miscellany and stick to one's pack.

Craving
Just finished (actually re-read) Jodi Picoult's Vanishing Acts. Few lines got stuck in the mind...
When you want something desperately, you shake with the need for it. You tell yourself you don't need more than one sip, because it's just the taste you crave, and once it's on your tongue you will be able to make it last a lifetime. You dream of it at night. You see a thousand mile-high obstacles between where you stand and what you want , and you convince yourself you have the power to hurdle them...
...Love is the most dangerous craving of all, if you ask me, it turns us into people we aren't. It makes us feel like hell, and makes us walk on water. It ruins us for anything else.
...After all, to acknowledge Delia (the love in question) as a drug, I'd have to face the fact that one day I might have to go without her, and this I can't do.

Another one
Tip #55A (from the book called "Tips for stalling your blog-readers"): If you don't have anything interesting to write, put up a picture. That will ought to keep them occupied.
Tip #78 (from the same book): Another good way of stalling the readers is writing a random post about things you like or dislike. Remember they don't have anything better to do so they will put up with any crap you put up there.
I debated between the two and decided to give tip #55A another shot. So here is another sketch from my old sketch book. Among all my sketches, I always liked this one best . Elderlies are pretty hard to sketch...their wrinkles come in the way of their facial feature. May be thats why they are such a popular theme.

So how was your interview?
Frankly, I don't know answer to this question. How do you know how your interview went? Obviously, the interviewers won't tell you. They all are so nice to you. How do you know when did you screw up? They don't react, they write which, by the way, is very annoying.
Speaking of being annoying, what's up with those HR questions? Have you been in situation where you had a difficult team member and how did you deal with the situation? Have you ever disagreed with your supervisor? How did you deal with that? Have you ever dealt with a difficult person? Have you worked in a limited budget project?(Yeah. Its called grad life!). Which course do you like the most and why? Which was the most difficult course you took and what did you do to deal with it? Honestly, I am not sure whether they are looking for an intern or a suitable match for marriage. And how do they know I am not making up these "experiences"?

"Men are stronger than Women. That's a fact." : A friend (obviously male) in Karate class tried to tease us.
"Yeah and Women are more flexible than Men. Whats your point?": Another friend (again, obviously female) replied back.
Can't help replaying this conversation over and over again in my mind. Karate classes are fun!

Now what...
You walk into a job fair. Go to a stall of the company you are interested in. You have already signed up for an interview with them. Your sole purpose of going to job fair is collecting the free goodies they give away. You introduce yourself to the person you are going to interview next day. They acknowledge the fact. And then silence. Now what? You still want those goodies but you can't blurt that and you have nothing else to talk about. What do you do next?

I opened Pandora's box this summer and one of the thing that came out was my old sketch book apart from my old diaries and other things that, once upon a time, I used to treasure.
Anyway, looking through my old sketch book, I realized how much patience and time I used to put in my sketches though they weren't perfect either. And how different my signature were then...

Criticism..
..is so hard to handle, if not the hardest. Got reprehended twice today (at two entirely different places, for entirely different things..worse part being that they both are my RECREATIONAL activities: Photography and Karate) and no matter how much I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter, its over now, you did your best and blah blah blah, I still feel bruised. May be the criticism was genuine and meant to help me improve but still IT HURTS.
I guess the hardest part of making yourself open to constructive criticism is that criticism hurts pretty badly making it harder to reach to that constructive part. Can we skip the criticism part somehow and go straight to the improving part? Haven't we made any progress in Psycho-whatever methods? Do I have to get hurt every time I need to improve? Not fair...

What more can I say? The latest news looks promising though. There is report of military coup. At least the military doesn't seem as heartless as their Chinese counterparts. Remember Tiananmen Square protests of 1989? I totally expected a military coup after the tragedy. Stories said they killed their own sons. Hope everything goes well in Myanmar...
P.S.: Bravo to all the bloggers and citizen journalists of Myanmar who are keeping outside world updated with the latest news. I wish outside world could be more active towards their plight. For the latest check the Cbox and this site.

Down the memory lane
FragileI found my old diaries in deep boxes at home and brought them with me. No, I never rhymed. This was a small poem I found written at back of my notebook in college years along with another one (including the title and indentations). I liked it then so noted it down in my diary. I never found out who wrote it. I also kept wondering about the use of word "detachment" in the poem. BTW , there isn't a rhyme in the poem, is there? Just indentation... I am not sure it qualifies for a poem.
Heart wrapped in detachment
Relationship enclosed in trust
Love strings with the elasticity of compromise
Have no price tag - or lifetime guarantee
Anyway, the second "poem" was even cuter...
Me N You
Distance of individuality
Keeps them wide apart
Although they share the same memories
Their words have less to say
Together they are drifted away
Towards a kind of reservation
where others hesitate to intrude
Sweet memories! When I wrote down these lines in my diary I had no idea that someday I would be writing this down in a blog. The idea of blog wasn't conceived at that time. How fast time changes...

Heights of God
I am back from Vaishnav Devi. My first and last trip to that place. Honestly, why do these Gods have to make their temple so high up in mountain and why can't they have trollies to reach there like they have for Mansa Devi in good old Hardwar? Now you would ask why on Earth did I go to Vaishnav Devi when I am an Agnostic. Well my mom wanted to go to Vaishnav Devi and it did sound like a good photo opportunity so I went. And yes, I kept asking myself the same question all over the hike,"Why am I here?". Who can think about taking the photos when you can't stand and you have to walk up the hills? Camera was just an extra load on my back. Each and every joint in the body has been hurting ever since.
The commercialization of God and the Temple is admirable though. It seems the whole town of Katra (the base of the hike) survives because of that temple. God is used as the selling point. I wonder, is Vaishnav Devi famous as a result of this commercialization or the other way round? In any case, I learned my lesson. No more temples for me. No matter how appealing the surroundings may sound.

I am finally home but the internet access I hoped for isn't there so I have to take a brief break. I will be back as soon as I can sort out the internet situation at home otherwise when I am back to my home, I mean my other home.
AS I have 5 minutes left in my alloted time here in internet cafe, let me bore you with some details of the visit so far. The weather hasn't been bad, actually I expected it to be much hotter than this. I got two of my wisdom teeths pulled out and got a stitch at the back of my mouth. So I am on ice-cream diet. Yippe. Though I have already gained weight (its been a week ONLY!). Ok time's up...Bye...

Sleepless in SFO
The vacuum cleaners are whirring in the background somewhere as I write this though I can't see them. Maintenance man pass by every few minutes. I am right now in partially deserted San Francisco airport. Dearest Continental Airlines has refused to check me in till 4:30 in the morning (which means I am stuck with all the luggage so can't sleep whole night) though not before the sweet Counter lady (she isn't called hostess..what are they called..flight people? Airline people?) showed my ticket and passport to all her colleague.
And hence my passport, my ticket and my state id was passed to 5 different person (probably because I was only customer at the time) till she finally saw the departure time of 8:30AM and told me to come back in the morning. Yet another counter person told me that I should have come in the morning. Yeah I know. But I just arrived from Seattle and don't have enough time to go back home and come back on time for the flight! I am not a total idiot, you know. Obviously I didn't say it that rudely but I wanted to. I am already sleep deprived and hence becoming crankier by the minute and to top that they started with my name YET AGAIN. And then told me that I don't have an ounce of common sense in me. Or may be I am just cranky at the moment and looking for excuses to vent.
Anyway, yet another embarrassing moment of my life. I attended wedding of my friend today, which btw was beautiful. I saw the bride (my ex-room-mate) after an year or so. She lost a lot of weight but that wasn't the shock. She has always been a tom-boy. I have seen her in skirt twice or thrice in 2 years we have been room-mate and never in a dress or makeup. So when I saw her today I was just shocked and as luck will have it, she spotted me at once and came to say hello to me. I was still in state of shock when I stupidly uttered (contradicting my earlier statement...I can be very very stupid at times) "You look STRANGE". I knew it the moment I uttered those stupid words. She laughed and said, "Thats a statement". Well she is a very sweet person and as I said earlier very tomboyish. I did apologize 3 times though and still can't believe I said that! To tell a girl on her wedding day that she looks strange! Stupid me!! I did explain that I have never seen her in makeup or dress and hence it was a shock even though I have been trying to prepare myself for that. Oh God, why do I open my mouth ever!
Anyway wedding was really nice. It was a very small party. There were approximately 40 people so we got to interact with her a lot which was really nice. I never attended a wedding when I got so much personal attention from the bride. It was very cozy and informal just like the potluck parties we arranged when we were together except that she was wearing makeup and a gown.
Obviously I took a lot of pictures. The one I like best is the one below(I like this shot better in B&W but then you won't be able see her beautiful wedding dress). She was running out on the deck towards her "Husband" (The guy seen between her left shoulder and head) for a photo shoot. Sun had finally decided to show up for few moments, a perfect photo opportunity so the photographer (guy on the right) was waiting...
"Hey, she doesn't have a last name".
"Did you know NLN stands for No Last Name?" (Thanks to the ticket agent, my tickets are issued to Richa NLN and as I posted earlier, my Visa is issued to a Ms. FNU Richa where FNU stands for First Name Unknown).
Jason Bourne and packing
I am a very bad reader. Once I pick up a book, its very hard for me to keep it down and work. Unfortunately, I bought the Bourne series by Robert Ludlum for the long, boring flights (Did I mention I am traveling most of the next week, finally reaching India on 28th Aug?). Well that wasn't unfortunate thing to happen, unfortunate thing was that I couldn't resist to start the first book, The Bourne Identity. Just before the flights, when all the packing has to be done. You can imagine the mess. Two big suitcases, half packed, clothes, gifts, shopping bags everywhere and I can't keep the book down. How can you when the main character of the book could be killed at any moment!
Result: I am again sleep deprived (last time it happened when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released: 22 hours non-stop reading) and I have a crazy schedule for next week. I have to catch a 6Am flight tomorrow morning means I have to start from my home at 3:30 AM. Reach Seattle, attend a wedding on Saturday, start back immediately after the function, catch the 7: 42PM flight to San Fransisco. The flight reach at 11 PM. I have asked a friend to get my big bags for India to airport then spend the night at SFO airport. Catch the flight to India at 8:30 AM next morning, stop over at New York airport for 2 hours from 5PM to 9PM and then direct flight to reach Delhi approximately 12 hours later. Clear the customs, get a cab and finally reach Roorkee (my hometown) in approximately 5 hours.
I just hope I don't fall asleep on airport and miss any of these flights! And now I should really get back to my packing. And oh, the point of the post: I am not sure how much internet access will I have for next few days, so I might be out of reach for few days...See you once I am at home!

Artist's Conundrum
It is something Jason (our Prof for photography class) discussed in the last class and it is something I have been experiencing for past few days too. Its the sense of seeing the present as a past.
You see, more time you spend behind the camera more you get this feeling. Everything around you is being evaluated as a shot. Every scene is visualized with in the frame, even if you don't have the camera with you. How will this look, what will be a better angle to capture this moment..the mind is constantly working. Seeing the present and anticipating how will it look like when seen in the future as a 2D image. Its as if you are seeing the present as a past of the future.
And I think this isn't just photography. I remember when I learned oil painting as a teenager, I would see the colors around me and will think how can I get the exact same shade using my color palette. Adding Chrome Yellow with a tiny bit Scarlet might give me that orangish shade and White with Crimson will give me that pink cloud. Each and every thing around was evaluated in terms of color palette then as if I was visualizing, again, the scenes around me as a painting. The frame was set too, though unconsciously, for this imaginary painting. The present seen on the canvas of future.
And do you ever feel the same with day to day events? Events that are worth blogging, incidents that aren't. Your mind constantly at work, choosing, discarding words, sentences to describe the events on your blog even when its happening. And again the present as seen as past of the future.
Or may be I am just blabbing. But as they say all artists are loony. If thats true, then I have very high potential!

Wedding gift
This Saturday I am attending my ex-roomie wedding in Seattle and until now I was excited to attend the wedding and to be able to visit Seattle till I started browsing the internet for the wedding gift. And honestly I will happily get married to get at least few of these gifts. Okay, I want this, this, this and this. Though this, this and this won't hurt either. Any takers?

Hmmm...
Embarrassing things happen and somehow its always me on the receiving end. Why?
Two days ago, I got a mail from our research group about dinner on Thursday evening (last night). As we had our final portfolio submission today morning so I sent back an RSVP of being not sure about attending it. And as I wasn't sure about going, I didn't read the mail properly. I thought that dinner was at 8:00. And as luck will have it, I finished everything by 6:30 in the evening. I came back, got ready and reached the destination at 8:00. In fact, I wore a new dress and was very excited about showing it off at the dinner. I was inside the restaurant at 8:15. Shouldn't at least the host be there? People here are usually at time, especially if its a official group dinner (even if its a casual dinner). So where is everyone? Am I in the wrong restaurant? So I took out my cell phone to call someone from the group and there were three voice messages. Well, I thought, may be someone called up when I was in Dark room. I can hear to that later on. Let me call up first. I am standing at the door of the restaurant. My friend picked up on the first ring and greeted me with, "Where were you?".
Were? Well English is her second language and she does make a lot of mistakes, I thought. So I continued, "Hey, where are you guys? I am at the restaurant."
" The dinner was at 5:30. Where were you? I tried to call you", the answer came.
"5:30? But the mail said 8 :00", I said.
"No, the address was 800 Emerson street. The time was 5:30. I tried to call you too", She said.
OMG. I looked around. People from nearby table were staring at me, half smiling. Great. Why? Why me? After a whole day, hell, whole month of hard work this was my first break. Anyway, at least I had something to blog about. The silver lining.
P.S.: BTW, if you were wondering about those three voice messages, they were for the dinner. Only if I had heard them before calling, I could have walked out of the restaurant quietly and made up an excuse to my friends later on. No one would have known. But alas!

Shy and Bold
Although I am going to put this set on my new photoblog Aperture, I couldn't resist the temptation to put these photos here as well. The two shots were taken approximately 2 years apart but still they seem to make perfect sense with each other. BTW, the second shot titled "Bold" is from my own Kitchen garden.

Landscape
Unfortunately, we had to submit our Assignment to the TA this time. I didn't scan them before submitting it so I have to wait till next week to do so and then finally post the inventory here. Till then enjoy these landscapes. They are from same location with slightly different view. I like the depth in this picture. Its amazing how you can create a sense of 3D in 2dimensional piece of paper..

I got my name back!
I failed my behind-the-wheel test again today and I love California DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle: responsible for issuing the driver's license and vehicle registration etc.). A sort of oxymoron, isn't it? But its true. This was my third behind-the-wheel test and so I have to take the written test again in order to keep my temporary license. The lady behind the counter saw my Passport and Visa and the previous temporary license that I had.
Anyway, coming back to today's story, though you would have guessed what happened. The DMV personnel explained that they HAVE TO change my name to only one name "Richa" and if that's okay with me. Ha! As if I would say no to THAT! Finally I have my name back! I am Richa again!!
Let me explain the importance of the driver's license in US. Oh yes, its a license to drive the vehicle but its not the only use of Driver's license here. Its used as a state photo id (somewhat equivalent to our voter id cards). And as an immigrant here, it will allow me to not to carry my passport when I am traveling within US. This ID is extremely important in US. Its used to verify your credit cards, used when you buy something expensive or sensitive as cell phone or even to get a membership in a video library like Blockbuster. In the nutshell, its very difficult to survive in US without one, unless you are living in place like Bay area with good public transport system and could show a Stanford id, which people here accept as much as the Driver's license (well being in Stanford is good for something at least).
P.S.: Don't worry about the driver's test. I am a good driver, honestly. I just get very nervous when someone is judging me and making notes sitting in the passenger's seat and hence I crossed the tiny red light. (Hey I rode my scooty in Chennai for 2.5 years where stopping at red light meant getting hit by a bus or a car from behind!)
She said, "We have to remove your first name. Are you ok with that?".This is one of the reason I hate being in US. I have one name "Richa". People always had problem with that but I learned to deal with it, even though it is still annoying when people go asking rudely why don't you have a last name? and even more rudely what's your caste?(one of the reason I refrained from adding the surname). Hey my name, my choice, got it? But US was whole new story. Every human being, according to US immigration laws, have to have a second name. Its okay if you don't have a first name though (you think that is funny? Not for people like me who get their names distorted by this stupid law). So when I applied for US visa, they made my name as 'FNU Richa', where FNU stands for, they explained, for First Name Unknown. It was very irritating. I think this is a violation of my personal rights but since I am not a citizen here, I don't have any choice but accept. At least Indian constitution gives me a choice of having the name I choose. And don't ask me why it couldn't have been 'Richa LNU' for last name unknown?
I went, huh?
So she indicated to my Visa and said, "Your first name here is indicated as 'FNU'. Do you know what it means?"
Me (with a sigh): "Yes. First name unknown."

CNN and style
And neither of them has anything to do with this blog, me thinks. But somehow I had a referral visit from it so investigated further to find my blog address listed on this page. Towards the bottom of page in the section titled "From the Blogs: Controversy, commentary and debate", my blog is first one to be listed. And the post it is pointing to is actually a sketch. No controversy, debate or even commentary. I just can't make a connection between the article and this post. I guess I need to invent a new mathematical algorithm to reach there. Any ideas?

Yin and Yang
Another photograph from my inventory but again, I wanted to post this one separately too. I like this one as it gives a feeling of unity of opposite and hence the title, Yin and Yang. The main subject of the photograph are these two guys engrossed in reading/working on computer. One is standing, the other is sitting. Both are doing same task. Then the two border of the photograph emphasize that opposite. The tree on the right is darker in tone while the pillar on the left is lighter tone. similarly the tree above and the hedge below. And to think I actually walked past this one. This particular day, I was exhausted and just wanted to go back home. No more pictures. And then I walked past them, realizing the potential of the picture but still chanting no more pictures in my mind. I went up 10 steps and then gave in the temptation of taking this picture. How often can you get such a perfect composition? Thankfully, none of them moved in that time span. Another thing that I like about the picture, though it was not my intention and it came up as an accident, is the way the branches of tree are parallel to the curvature of back of the sitting while the standing person back is the parallel to the frame boundary in the left (the pillar). I really like the way this picture has come up...
