Vaijayanti Mala

…well sort of.VM

Vaijayanti Mala is my Dad’s favorite actress so when I found this picture of her on the net, I had to sketch it. I understand, it’s far from perfect but nearly everyone instinctively refers hers as Madhubala. My mom explained the reasoning behind that. She says  that this particular sketch reminds her of movie Madhumati and she is obviously Vaijayanti Mala. And when you combine the two, the mind automatically comes up with Madhubala instead of Vaijayanti Mala.

So if you also thought she is Madhubala, I forgive you and remind you that I was trying to sketch Vaijayanti Mala. Hmph…

Marilyn Monroe

Someday, I will achieve perfection. Till then, you have to do with these. (also I need more patience working on the dark tones..)

BTW, today was Marilyn Monroe’s 47th death anniversary.

At least now I can tell you who I was trying to sketch. She is not perfect but she does come close, don’t you think?

Weekend doodling

After a long long long time, I picked up my pencils again. Wasted a lot of papers before I got back some of my rhythm. I know its far from perfect and may be should be allowed on the net but nevertheless here is one of the product of my weekend endeavors. Don’t ask me who I was trying to sketch. You won’t believe me if I told you!

Still Practicing...

Just practicing..

Well now the implications of me having a graphic tablet is sinking in, huh? Well someday, I will have more control on this media. Till then bear with me. :)

Yay!

As if I didn't have much to do with all my classes, research, Kenpo Karate,Photography and writing blog, I just got the graphic tablet I have been yearning for so long. Well my advisor gave everyone in our group a $100 gift card (Stanford Bookstore) for the New Year. I haven't been able to figure out what to do with that till today. I was browsing through the Bookstore's computer section and saw this baby. So now I have it. I wasted past half an hour trying to have some command on it and the final product is:

Yeah yeah, you can laugh now but one day I will have command over this thing, then we will see who is laughing. :)

Friday Evening...

I decided to pick up my pencils again this Friday. Resisted the temptation to go and watch the movie "Dan in Real Life" or "Game Plan"(both of them are on my To-watch list). So here are fresh from the factory sketches...They are completely random, out of the bag, sketches.

Another one

Tip #55A (from the book called "Tips for stalling your blog-readers"): If you don't have anything interesting to write, put up a picture. That will ought to keep them occupied.

Tip #78 (from the same book): Another good way of stalling the readers is writing a random post about things you like or dislike. Remember they don't have anything better to do so they will put up with any crap you put up there.

I debated between the two and decided to give tip #55A another shot. So here is another sketch from my old sketch book. Among all my sketches, I always liked this one best . Elderlies are pretty hard to sketch...their wrinkles come in the way of their facial feature. May be thats why they are such a popular theme.

Memory lane again...

I opened Pandora's box this summer and one of the thing that came out was my old sketch book apart from my old diaries and other things that, once upon a time, I used to treasure.

Anyway, looking through my old sketch book, I realized how much patience and time I used to put in my sketches though they weren't perfect either. And how different my signature were then...

P.S.: 1. BTW, in case you were wondering, this was a sketch book from my teen years. Something like 9-10th grade time period.

2. She looks like a vamp, doesn't she? Someone inform Ekta Kapoor...

Attempted

Well she doesn't look like the one I had in front of me, nevertheless she looks good. I think I need to practice more before attempting to sketch some real people...

Self-Portrait

Finally, I worked out some courage to do a self-portrait. Here is the result with the original picture.

An Unfinished Sketch..

After a long time, I picked up my pencils again and started to sketch again. I will post them some time. Today I am posting an unfinished sketch that I have been wanting to finish for a long time but don't think I can capture the beauty...Here is the unfinished sketch. Pardon the poor scanning quality.

P.S.: This is an unfinished sketch of Aishwarya Rai.

Update:
On the second thought, I remember why I stopped working on this one. The lips were a bit off-center and I never attempted another one...
