Desism Vs. Racism- Reloaded

  2. This is a rarely talked about but highly prevalent issue. In Delhi, "chinki" is so much in use for people from North eastern origin that its just on everybodys mouth. One of the talented and popular radiojockeys has been barred as he publicly used the slang on the radio for a north eastern winner of a national level music show.
    When I first came to delhi 6 months ago then I added this new "word" to my vocabulary as everyone around me used it very frequently.But i realised that it seems really derogatory when somone used it for one of my colleagues who is a PhD holder and is very knowledgable and in fact very close to me.From that moment onwards i always hold myself whenever i have the temptation to utter this term for any one from North east....

  3. @annonymous/BFF: Hey I didn't know that 'chinki' is prevalent in India too. Honestly we living here have so much to catch on about things happening there.

    But I do identify with the feeling of disgust when those terms are used for a friend or they apply those segregation to one of your closest friend and think you will join them too. Those were the moments when i started refraining from these phrases too..
