The city

Black overcoats, black goggles, high heels, stylish walks, crazy traffic, jerk drivers and network of one ways. I guess that will aptly describe most of the cities in the western world.

I happened to spend the whole day in the city today and I kept wondering about those black goggles. Its not that bright at the moment (its winter, after all). Moreover, its so hard to get the sunlight in the city with those huge skyscrapers around. So why do these city dwellers insist on wearing those shades? As for me, I feel very uncomfortable talking to someone wearing the shades. It seems they are trying to hide their true intentions. Expressions in eyes make it so much easier to read anyone. May be that's why they wear them.

And why do they insist on wearing black as a rule? Its as if you are walking in a black and white world. Its so depressing. Can any city dweller, please explain these phenomena to me? I am at complete loss here...

  1. Uh.. a friend of mine(one with a very scientific outlook to life) argues black and white are no clours at all since one absorbs all while the other reflects all. So what are we discussing here anyway ??

  2. I agree- I get very irritated with black too! Here, in winter, EVERYBODY and htier dog wear's BLACK. I have promised myself that I will NEVER buy/wear a black coat.

Once I was going on one of the school buses, and I looked around. Everybody in the bus (except me) had on a black winter coat (mine is in bright garish pink!).

You know - I was actually thinking of posting this black thingy on my blog- but you beat me to it. Yes, I get sooo irritated by this. I think people in this country need to look at other colors.
Its all snow- white white white everywhere- and then black....

  3. @G3: We are discussing why people prefer to have a life devoid of colors...

@Rachna: Agreed! One reason I miss India. Its so colorful. You have so many colors to choose from unlike here. I don't think textile industry here has heard about different shades of colors...only saturated colors. Black, white, may be red and brown...sometimes gray. Thats all you get here in the stores..they all are same shades, for some reason. No difference between them except texture of the cloth..
